19 Mar 10 General Motors Seeks to Introduce New Green Car in China

After a great deal of talk in the media about the way the climate is being altered by human habitation, followed by a great many global conventions and other political meetings designed to get the world’s leaders to talk about ways they can help the environment recover from the harsh effects of industrialization around the world, General Motors is taking a step forward. The auto maker is planning to unveil a new breed of car which will go further than the average hybrid to create a totally new way to get around a large urban environment that is both green in terms of its eco impact, as well as being safe and convenient for the consumer. The pilot program is being run alongside Chinese partner SAIC which helped to unveil what is now known as the EN-V, a concept car whose acronym stands for Electric Networked Vehicle. The new car was being shown at the Shanghai Expo in Shanghai, China, where it amazed local and foreign journalists alike who were stunned not just by the visual presentation of the car, but at how it operates in the urban environment.

Instead of having to drive the car themselves, consumers will actually be able to allow a networked computer system to take over and do the work for them. This means that after the bars close in China, customers would be able to get into what amounts to a taxi and be taken a short distance home in a totally safe way. The cars max out at around 30 miles per hour, but that is cruising speed and designed to make sure they have have a collision.
